CULTURE CONNECTIVITY FOR YOUR PURPOSE, PEOPLE AND PROCESSES.
Even if your employees are brilliant and hardworking, they are still human. Sometimes the work culture highlights always being on the hustle, with no time to stop and acknowledge each other and their efforts. But don’t underestimate the power of recognition, which can bring clarity to employees and help them feel even more valued.
The psychology behind needing recognition explains why implementing various forms of recognition in the workplace is beneficial in creating a healthy work environment. The implementation will also help long-term employee retention.
The benefits of recognition revolve around basic human nature. LinkedIn researched the importance of employee recognition and found that “40% of employed Americans say they’d put more energy into their work if they were recognized more often.” This sh*t is a big deal!
Including employee recognition programs for your business can improve your bottom line and overall HR strategies.
Although a top-down approach to recognition is typically used—where executives recognize their employers—it can be empowering to include people of all caliber in the recognition process. This is called a “democratic recognition system.”
There are many familiar and valuable forms of employee recognition to continue practicing in the workplace (consider a shoutout in a meeting!), but after all, it’s 2021… So let’s get creative here, people!
Some creative employee recognition ideas include:
This can be a separate communication chat channel, an email or text thread, or anything else that is quick and easy to use to casually recognize a company and individual wins. This is a simple and effective way to implement employee recognition.
It may seem cheesy to give out a “best standup comedian” or “take the stairs award,” but a small piece of paper can make a huge difference. A certificate can be a serious compliment or a simple recognition showing you notice and appreciate an employee. Bonus points if they will keep the certificate around their desk area and are reminded of their recognition!
Feeling stuck on ways to show your appreciation towards employees? Ask them what would feel good. They are your best resource to discover how each individual and team feel most supported.
This doesn’t have to be costly but can still make a lasting impression. If your office is back in person, grab some donuts on Monday morning to start the week off right. Or, leave encouraging notes around the office as daily reminders of how awesome and valued your team is! The goal is to leave a positive impact.
Keep track of everyone’s birthdays and make sure to do something small on that day. Ideally, give them a day of paid time off. If that doesn’t work within the company budget, make a gift card or bring in a morning coffee to show your appreciation.
At Culture Works, we believe that your PEOPLE will evolve and operationalize your company culture through talent strategy and development.
